I'm one volume down in this immense book. Very entertaining sequence of escapades. The novel has a relay-race type structure where it will follow one character for a bit until they bump into someone else and then it'll follow the new person. A common sequence is that of a tough minor official who tries to right some injustice and is betrayed by corrupt superiors and flees to become an outlaw.
