“Dune Messiah” is a very different book from Dune. It’s maybe not for everyone, but I thought it was a very good addition in the saga. The plot was very intruiging, mainly focused in a conspiracy against Paul Atreides. So it contains a lot of politicing with good dialogue. Maybe a bit too preechy and philosophical at times for my liking, but still very good novel! 4/5

Chapterhouse Dune - I had high expectations for this book after the great HoD. Unfortunately those weren’t completely met. The book started pretty slow with much introspection and discussions, not always interesting, and sometimes too philosophical. The story was there to make more of it, but the execution lacked in the first part. It’s only in the later part that the book got momentum and started to deliver: 3,5/5

Heretics of Dune - I lost my interest to continue after GEoD. It now seems this was a mistake; I really loved this book. There are some slow parts but it gives a pretty good story overall. The tensions between the different factions play a large part here; Bene Gesserit, Tleilaxu, forces from the scattering … We get a good start and it all leads up to an amazing second half. Some excellent characters as well. 4,5/5

"God Emperor Of Dune": Dune is great. DM and CoD are still very good. GEoD is however substandard; very tedious to read. It was a slog to get through due to the many philosophical speeches. Herbert added some of this in previous books (mainly #2 and #3), but the difference is that those books still had a decent story. The Story in GEoD is so thin it could have been told in only a fraction of the pages he did now: 2/5

“Children of Dune” continues the saga 9 years after events of “Dune Messiah”. There are multiple plot points in the story; the return of Jessica Atreides, the plotting of Alia, an assassination plot, the Golden Path … bringing this all together makes an interesting story, one I really liked. The drawback is however the ranting of Herbert on his own concepts. This distracts from the story. Still a good read: 4/5

"Dune" is a great story and I've enjoyed it massively. I can perfectly see why this has become a classic in the scifi genre. It's complex, beautiful, enthralling ... everything you wish for in a good book. Not only a great adventure with great characters and worldbuilding, but also a lot of detail in multiple themes; from politics, economics, cultures, religion to ecology. It has everything. An amazing read !!! 5/5
