This book has a ton of flashbacks to when he was a kid. I think the author is trying to send a message to the reader of how he got to where he is today.

This shows that Malcolm has a love-hate relationship with basketball. He loves playing but doesn't like not getting some type of reward for the amount of work that he put in. This also shows that he is straight up to the reporters when he answers their questions.

My favorite character is Malcome McBride because he has overcome so much adversity in his life, especially making it to college from a low-income family.
