What motivates Sunny in The Brightest Night is her friends, the other dragonets. She grew up with them and they have always been the most important thing to her. She decided to follow the Nightwings that tried to hold her hostage to save her friend Starflight. Her friends are the thing that motivates her to help others and she always tries to protect them, and make sure they are happy.

Wings of Fire is written in Viewpoint narrative, I know this because it is switching between two different perspectives at different times. We are getting the perspective of Sunny in the sand kingdom and Glory in the rain forest with the other dragons. They are at different times and we don't know when it takes place. In the end they meet up and the perspectives connect.

The prologue explains the situation of how the Eye of Onyx was stolen from the sand queen by scavengers, or humans, along with other treasures. Also context clues were given, that the sand queen's daughter Blister may have betrayed her and that Queen Oasis was killed by the scavengers. This would have resulted in the war between her daughters to become the next queen.
