Rook and Nikki work out her mum's code and she finds the hidden drop box. Unfortunately the bad guys find her. There are some big surprises here, so no spoliers.
The homage to Firefly in the naming of characters is great.
Will definitely get hold of some of the other books in this series.

The trip to Paris revealed that Nikki's mum was a spy. When they return to the USA they are kidnapped by Homeland security.
Leads keep following and now they have more bodies and attempts tp kill Nikki.
Her team work tirelessly to solve the case.

Rook gets to meet Nikki's dad. following which they have an arguement. She ends up walking out and having a martial arts session. Her instructor returns to her place for a shower and is killed when an assassin tries to kill Nikki.
She is suspended for a week and at Rook's insistance they go to Paris to meet her mum's best friend's parents.

Heat and Rook identify the murder victim. Someone who once upon a time was a very good friend of Nikki's mum. Mystery still around why Nikki's mum spent so long abroad rather than returning to take up a promising career as a concert pianist.

Some progress being made but they still have no ideawho the corpse is.
