Reading Nietzsche through a Lacanian Lens? What's not to love? Repetition, Difference, Event... I love seeing these themes I've grown interested in stretching back through lineages of thinkers. Maybe if I was a philosophy major I would know all this already, but I love being surprised by seeing these concept-melodies threading their way through time and minds. The thrill of being self taught. Zupančič is joy to read.

The discussion of the marble statue and the difference between seeing and looking is the most clear analogy yet in helping me better understand Lacan's mirror stage.

This book is worth it alone for Zupančič's quick review of Nietzsche's overall thoughts and themes. Most especially the discussion of passive and active nihilism, and how it tracks with Lacan's thoughts on sublimation and the ethics of desire.

The great thing for me, other than just how interesting and enlightening it is overall, is how clearly written it is. Zupančič really is becoming my favorite secondary writer of Lacanian themes.
Ipsa wrote: "Zupancic's What IS Sex? is one of the most thrilling theory books I have read in a while!"Yes! That was the first I read from her and thrilling is a perfect way to describe the experience. She excels at not only helping you to better understand the theorist she is examining but also to completely put her own viewpoint and fingerprint on everything. My brain always is buzzing when I am reading her.
