Not sure how much longer I'll keep on reviewing books. Both here and on Steam (where I review video games), it's just this endless parade of obnoxious comments from dunning-kruger infected intellectual zombies. I find it curious, if not surprising, that any claim of expertise is inevitably greeted with an accusation of elitism or arrogance. But no, knowing something and knowing you know it is not arrogance.

I had the same problem. The cure was simple: block the trolls right after their first comment. Most of the normal people love reading reviews even when they do not agree with the rating.

Yeah, I should. It's just that I like to make bold claims and often take contrarian stances. That's my major motivation - what can I write about this that no one else has written?So in a sense I'm asking for such engagement and thus feel like I need to respond in good faith.
But that type of instructive engagement is what I do at my job... and I'm just too worn down by it to properly engage with contentious commentary on social media.
You could also limit your reviews to friend comments only, if you’re willing to give up the good strangers with the bad!
