Not something I’d normally have chosen, but a reviewer gotta do what he gotta do. Illsley’s early life-story is fascinating, well-written, informative and 100% ego-free. Straits are recording their second album with Jerry Wexler at the board, and the dynamic can almost be felt. I just hope that the remaining 154 pages don’t fall into the hotel-gig-bus-studio trap. Somehow, I think John Illsley’s above that.
