His and Hazel go to the authors house. He is drunk, rude and very aggravating. Hazel wanted to find out how her favorite book ends but he refuses. Hazel get angry and is feels bad that she used His wish for nothing. Gus remains much calmer and promises to write the sequel for Hazel. there must be some reason why the author was so rude to them about their cancer, has a family member died as a result of it?

Augustus was is the hospital. His cancer is much worse now. Hazel is very calm about everything. Gus is planning his own funeral which makes me sad. Gus is still in good spirits

Augustus just told Hazel that he is sick. This shocked me. It was really surprising and he doesn't seem that upset- I would be a wreck.

Hazel gets the all clear from her doctor to go to Amsterdam, thankfully. When they are at the airport, you can begin to see how society pictures cancer and how it affects the people who have it. "I could feel everyone watching us, and how heroic my mom must be, and everything else. That was the worst part about cancer, sometime: The physical evidence of the disease separates you from other people".

Hazel and Augustus want to go to Amsterdam to meet their favorite author. I'm worried about Hazel's health. I think she will be to sick to go. It was also really nice for Gus to let her "hitch jack" his wish. Hazel still doesn't want to get super close to Augustus because she is worried that her cancer will ruin it. Gus doesn't seem to mind.

"I'm like a grenade, Mom. I'm a grenade and at some point I'm going to blow up". Hazel is worried about hurting people and doesn't want to get attached with anything. I think this is the reason she doesn't want to get to know Gus. This makes me feel bad for Hazel- something I know she doesn't want. He mom thinks that she is depressed, and in some situations, I agree with her.

"You read a book and it fills you with this weird evangelical zeal, and then you become convinced that the shattered world will never be put back together unless and until all living humans read that book". I feel this way about some books and the way Hazel described it was perfect. Gus promises to read her favorite book but I think he is just saying that is Hazel will like him.
