While reading this I had to keep reminding myself that one reason I read fiction is to gain understanding based on another's perspective. I wish that understanding was come by more enjoyably, but that doesn't make it any less valuable.

I know it's wrong for me to rejoice in J.P. Morgan's death but I can't help it. The end is in sight.

This is rugged.

It's also hard to gage what's true and what's invented.

I'm usually disinclined to read historical fiction since it's so hard to write in a way that doesn't betray contemporary mores and sensibilities. This suffers from that same affliction.

If I had known there were romantic elements to this book, I'm not sure I would have been interested in it.
