I have never read a love story before (I’m not sure if this qualifies as one) as I’m not keen on them but still it’s a nice novel. I can remember being young and thinking that I was in love (I was quickly dispelled of this notion and still don’t understand the concept at all, at least I’m a little wiser now lol), this book makes me miss being so naive.

At this point the plot reminds me of Camus’s book The Stranger, persecution via reputation (still don’t know the verdict). Many aspects in this novel remind me of the fiction of Camus (death penalty, ad hominem attacks, beauty in nature. Etc.) which holds a special place in my heart. I’m not sure whether to be enraged or delighted that this “Classic writers” outsider could pique my interest so…

So far a well written book. I didn’t think there were many well written mainstream books out there but wonders never cease…
I spend a lot of time outdoors so I love the outdoorsy observations of the narrator. Sad story though…
My only complaint is it’s a classic “whodunnit” format and I don’t find the sheriffs to be very convincing characters but it’s fine and who knows where it will go.
