I feel like this is taking me longer to read than I would like. It’s not for not liking it, though the stuff about genetics is kind of over my head. I’m just not reaching for it with every free moment like I have some of the others I’ve read. I’m eager to get through it, though, because I’ve got like six more books lined up after this one.

You know, I just realized that this is reminding me in some ways of BLEAK HOUSE. The female narrator who understates herself, the jumps between first-person narration and third-person omniscient. That’s about all of the connection, I guess. I feel like I’m taking forever to read this book. Ugh. Almost at the halfway, though, that’s something.

The jumping through three different time periods is interesting and I think I’m following overall but I must say the idea of a librarian as a proto-search engine is so outside of my experience here in the 21st century that it feels very odd to read about.

Eyes are getting heavy, otherwise I would have read a bit more tonight. Not sure what to think yet; there’s certainly beauty in song of the words and phrasing. Unclear what the story is about yet, though.
