As I read his treatises on the evils of "things" and luxury and how a man becomes a slave to his things I wonder, what would he make of the state of things now? He imagines seeing a man with a cloud of all his belongings and furniture following behind him, everywhere he goes. The enormity of the average modern "cloud" surely risks absurdity in comparison to Thoreau's time.
