A perfect illo of "don't judge a book by its cover"! The library copy in front of me, the HMH 2015 reprint, has AMAZINGLY sappy cover art: a big-headed, busty princess and a sappy-looking dragon with long eyelashes! Plus, the library classes it as a "juvenile"!

I have the original hardcovers illustrated by Trina Schart Hyman, whose art I love - she illustrated some beautiful picture books and used to be a portrait artist. https://turtleandrobot.files.wordpres...

Likely I thought these were too "girly" when they were new? Well, better late than never. Total delight so far. Comparable to Jack Vance's "Madouc " -- plus more focused!
