I love the sprinkling of Patois (Patwah) in this book.
I felt a little flutter of joy when I read about a protagonist's mother combing through their afro. I was definitely anticipating the word "hair" and didn't even know how to comprehend the validation and realisation I felt when the word wasn't tresses, locks, curls, waves, or silky strands, but ARFO. That felt like it was written just for me and my inner child.
