V. racist, and the style is easy to mock, but I don't know - there's something almost radical, in this day and age, about lines like

You whose hearts are pure and simple
Who have faith in God and Nature
Who believe that in all ages
Every human heart is human

You wish Longfellow did believe that; he can't, as they say, look past his own position
