I liked this one after I waded thru the beginning, but also, same 😅 It just wasn't as good as I remembered her plots/storytelling being.

Sadly I’ve noticed this too. Her books (in my opinion) have really gone down in quality since The Golden Braid (her last really good one to me). It’s a bummer because I used to really like her books a lot.

Ah, yes!!! The Golden Braid was the first one of hers I read, when I was about ten-ish. (I read the whole series backwards. XD) I loved it, and I loved the rest of her books for a while, until her newer ones, I suppose. Either I've grown up or her writing really has gotten worse. Oh, well.

Maybe there's some hope, then! Yeah, honestly the last few...the Aladdin retelling and the Pied Piper one and all...really weren't as good as I remember the first ones being. Maybe I ought to re-read those sometime!
I have to agree. I think the characters are either missing some depth, or not to have so much fluff in the story.

Ah, maybe it'll get better later on... I do feel like Christian YA fiction is sooo much more...immature, I guess, than secular YA or even Christian adult. It's like the writing and characters are targeted at middle-graders, even though most of the readers are older teens and adults. *sigh* Either that, or I'm just picky.
