It's funny how in so many M/M books the father of one of the characters was a complete ass and the mom was always wonderful. If the mom was so wonderful why did she stay with the awful dad then?

He leaned close, until his mouth was inches from David’s ear. “I like it,” he whispered.
“Almost as much as I like you.”
David bit his lip, his heart pounding. “I like you too.”

I can’t believe how much feeling there is in such a simple declaration.
I’m loving this.

I'm liking this way more than I thought I would.

Candy M. You're speaking too much sense, Susan. This can be a dangerous thing indeed 😂

Susan You're right! Putting on my blinders again. 😂

BWT My mother stayed with my father until she died despite him being an ass. 🤷‍♀️ I think it was a lot of the Catholic beat into her that divorce was never an option.

Susan I totally get that relationships were different for the older generation. Especially the idea of divorce.
But I often feel it's a trope often used in M/M. And not always very realistically done.
Like the mom is kind and super accepting of all gay people, while the father was a homophobe who treated his kids like shit. And still the mom stayed with him til the father died and never says a bad word about her dead husband.

I've seen this exact same trope used in a lot of books and it's often to emphasise the trauma of the MC, while still making sure he has a loving mother left. It just doesn't make a lot of sense to me. 🤔
