Studying the religions of societies which have little "development of the individual" and div'n of labour, allows a better look at the fund. 'elements' that are present in religious systems. Religions of stratified societies are less straightforward as they are experienced differently by the different individuals, clergy v lay etc.

Categories of thought emerge from the social realm and are not empirical or prior.
