Wicked Incognito Now is 40% done

This is such a joy to listen to, and at the same time extremely heart-breaking. I can't imagine the pain and bitterness that must live within the black "help" on a daily basis to hear people say that they carried diseases so they couldn't use the same bathroom, or get paid a decent wage, but we certainly good enough to raise their children, or prepare their meals....oh, the daily bile that they must've swallowed.

Wicked Incognito Now is 60% done

I love the little tidbits of historical perspective in this book, like the narrator mentions that a new drug called Valium was just introduced--to help housewives with the little everyday stresses. Or that the surgeon general just announced that smoking may cause health concerns, and of course there is the ever rampant racism and sexism. These bits remind me of how far we've come since the sixties.

Okay- I just listened to 1hr 15m of this. It's perfect! I love the narrator and love the story. The vernacular really bugged me while reading, but hearing it read is a different experience. It's wonderful. I can't wait to get back to listening to this. Maybe I should go for another 4 miles?
