Ian McDonald seems to sometimes get a little caught up in his own cleverness, to the detriment of the story. Yet, this is still a really really good book.

I don't know what's more disturbing: that Ian McDonald can write about a horrific and gruesome event in such a beautiful and poetic way, or that I thought it was so lovely I want to re-read the passage.
