“Meanwhile, the public flocked to the production, and there were scenes of hysteria in the auditorium as audience members cried out or swooned with emotion at this vivid re-creation of a social trauma so many of them had only recently endured. An ambulance was stationed outside the theatre for every performance.”

withdrawn Sort of like The Rolling Stones concerts I went to a half century ago.

TBV (on hiatus) RK, as I rather like The Rolling Stones I am quite envious.

H (trying to keep up with GR friends) Balikov How deep will this dive be into Russian history, literature, etc?

TBV (on hiatus) H, I finished reading this book about a week ago. It is a concise biography, and it refers to the many important events of that period (late nineteenth century to 1940), and how they related to Bulgakov and his peers. His writing is discussed too.

Thank you, T. I am looking forward to your next reviews as well

TBV (on hiatus) Thanks! :-).

Kevin Lopez (on sabbatical) Sounds a lot like what happened after Woland’s performance at the Moscow theater in “The Master and Margarita”! :))

TBV (on hiatus) Kevin, I’ll have to read the book! :-)

Kevin Lopez (on sabbatical) Yeah you definitely should T, it’s an amazing read. I only recently began reading Bulgakov; I love Russian literature but have always been more into the 19th century writers. Reading Bulgakov though was a transcendent and enlightening experience!
