Liu continues to impress me with his concepts. Although at first I was wary about his adding random sub-stories in the memoirs Rina reads, but I think it helped flesh out the concept of souls as objects more. The ending and message of this one left me reeling. Also, Rina = rain. :0

I quite enjoyed this one 🥲💔 The close ties to Taiwan makes a good 25% of the story, and the literomancy makes the other 75%. Not a fan of the long history lessons and historical excerpt, but that's largely attributed to the fact that I already know most of that story, if not in detail.

GOOD HUNTING
read this bc my dad was lapping me. took quite a few unexpected turns and I had to keep guessing at its message until the very end. first story I read with chinese cultural background and excited to read paper menagerie bc my dad alr has and im behind and it is also heavily based in chinese culture

PERFECT MATCH
Wow. I had thought this book could do no wrong. All the first three stories I had read were exquisitely thought-provoking-- this one just seemed bland and trite. I kept expecting it to build up to smth (my fault) but ended up with nothing and the ending was utterly underwhelming. What was the point
