So one chapter in and NOW Harriet seems like a bitch. Still not loving that the villain female character is so often concerned with her appearance and sexually assertive-when we consistently see those traits given to villains it is a vilification of them. Regardless, at least now Harriette is finally doing some unlikeaeble shit. She was the go-getter hero of the last book with the other characters hating her for noth

Finally the book is starting to grow on me. Still not crazy about the portrayal of Harriet's character. How does EVERYONE hate her? Wouldn't she have to be somewhat charismatic to be successful in business? But still, I'm like the blend of the cozy genre and the shifter genre. It's an interesting combination and seeing the same characters in multiple books makes you feel like you know them.

Never any foreplay in Zoe Chant books. Just first kiss, touch the boobs a couple times, and bam! Lady is all about the penetration. Which, fine. It just isn't my thing, which is why the sex scenes in these books are sort of meh imo

"batting mascara-crusted lashes at him" just when I was actually starting to like this one....the same shit as the last book, absolute villification of sexually-assertive women who like wearing makeup and care about their appearance. So sick of the misogyny. These books would actually be really cute and fun if it weren't for that.

Jyvur Entropy But Shaun isn't looking too great either. Not off to a great start, having the male lead be an absent father. I don't care if Harriet had full custody, he could have visited. Absolutely immature for him to "step back" and it wasn't out of kindness. He even admits a few paragraphs later that he hasn't seen Trevor in years because the distance is inconveniant. You know, I had a friend growing up whose dad lived in a different country. She saw him 3x a year and spent summers with him. Fuck Shaun's "inconvenient." He is a deadbeat dad. In some genres, the main characters have to be likeable. Not all genres. Some genres an unlikeable character can be compelling. But come on, this is romance. This is amazon wish-fulfillment fluff. Zoe Chant, why you giving me deadbeat dads? I can't work with that. everything south of the border shrivels up and turns to dust when deadbeat dads are involved (I've never actually met my own dad-the aversion might be related to that). Also, I have to point out, in this subgenre: SINGLE DAD ROMANCE, I take it the children and the man's nurturing/parental side is part of the appeal? How in the fuck does sticking a deadbeat dad into the hero role make any darn sense? For women who are sexually attracted to men who are good dads, why would you give them a deadbeat dad? WHAT THE FUCK

Jyvur Entropy I think it's safe to say this is the last Greenvalley Shifter's book I'm reading. I'm about to hate read this one just because I bought it at the same time I bought 'Dancing Bearfoot.' The freaking covers are just too good. Such gorgeous covers.

Jyvur Entropy "Some guy with lots of money-just the way Harriet liked them".................excuse me, author? You out here writing one rich male lead after another. That's just the way YOU like them. My theory is confirmed that the hatred of Harriet (and the snarky way all sexually-assertive loud and proud women are treated in the romance genre) is really just a way for the author to punish herself for her own perceived shortcomings when it comes to performing femininity.
