I am soft for the father/daughter? dynamic Elvar and Grend have BUT I have heard this author is ruthless so I am scared of getting emotionally attached lest something horrible happen to one of them. Or both of them. *laughs nervously*

This is my first Gwynne book (I've been wanting to try out his books for some time but just hadn't got around to it until now), and he's definitely a talented writer. The imagery in the first chapter was so vivid, I felt cold.
