I just got to the Big Death in the book. It was sad. Especially with the way Han stood on the loading ramp and watched as they sped away.

It would have hit a lot harder and a lot differently if I didn't know it was coming, and if I didn't know that it was retconned and Chewie would end up outliving Han.

Unfortunately, it was spoiled for me right around when the book first came out. Everyone was talking about it.

I’m about a quarter of the way through, and it’s been a bit of a slog. I’m sure this is the kind of book that builds slowly, then the last third goes super fast. Seeing as it’s the first book in a series, he can’t play all his cards at once. A lot of exposition has gone into the Yuuzhan Vong and the problems with the Jedi.

Jacen’s concerns about the Jedi Council are interesting, as are his views that Force Sensitives should find their own way to the Jedi instead of the other way around.

I think I understand Jacen’s view, but I agree with Luke. There should be a united purpose between all of the Jedi.

I haven’t read any books from this era of Legends before. 21 years after Return of the Jedi.

Having Mara be inflicted with an incurable disease right from the get-go seems heavy-handed. You just know where that’s going to end. Definitely foreshadowing that at least one beloved character is going to die.

I’ve never read any books from this era in Legends. I remember when this book first came out and I read an excerpt, probably in Star Wars Insider or something like that, and I was hesitant to read it because it seemed kind of “dark and edgy.”
