Making Connection: Most people aren't as alone as Karana in the world today, but there is still real people that live in similar manners as she did around the world. There is still people that make their own clothes, food, medicines, and places to live in, just like Karana. Another connection I made was how Karana needed to be self-reliant.

Protagonist: Karana is the protagonist in Island of the Blue Dolphins. It's about her quest to survive alone and escape the island. The first-person narration tells us exactly what she is thinking. This means we really feel for her when she loses her brother, and when she's fighting those Aleutian hunters.

Purpose & Audience: One of the focal subjects is the significance of friendship. Karana has been brought to live up in amicability with different individuals from her local area, just as the animals of land and ocean. Friendship helps these animals to survive since it moves them to suffer during troublesome occasions .With that being said the audience the author is trying to get attention is outgoing people.

Genre: I believe the genre of "Island of the Blue Dolphins" is Historical Fiction. I reason why I think this is because first, the time this current book's topic is on October 19, 1853. This tells me that it might be historical. I also believe that another genre for this book is Children's Literature.
