Yup, you've found me out. when I'm sick I make chicken soup, pout, and read enough manga to make my credit card weep.

Catherine Are you sick? Poor you. :( I hope you feel better soon!

Niko Llewyn Yeah, I got caught in the rain a few days ago and my white blood cell were slacking on the job lol. Thanks Catherine. = )

P.S. How was bk 2 in the Guild Hunter's Singh series? I've had it for ages, but haven't read it yet. When the first book in a series is just so amazing, I often worry I'm heading for a let down.

Catherine I liked it a lot, just in a different way. We got to watch them try to find their footing in their relationship and watch Elena explore her new development. I really like that we got a new location that hadn't been explored before.

So, I think the author changed things up a bit so that they wouldn't be in the same place, with the same people, doing the same thing. It's a good thing though because you won't constantly compare the two. I recommend trying it out!

new_user LOL! Just the thing for a cold. How are you liking 100% Perfect Girl? I just checked out the first chapter. Starving artist stereotype and differing expectations for son and daughter addressed right away- it looks like it has promise.

new_user I just read chapter four and realized there's quite an age gap between them, isn't there?

Catherine How big?

new_user Hmm, I can't be sure because I don't think they've mentioned his age, but she's in high school and he's already an accomplished businessman...? She says he's not middle-aged and a "young'un," so I'm thinking late twenties? But then I read a blog online that says he's the same age as her? No way...

Catherine So probably just a 10 year gap or so? I doubt he's a successful businessman under 20 too.

message 9: by new_user (new)

new_user Yeah, maybe it is a 10 year gap.

Niko Llewyn So far so good, light and funny. He is very young late teens (I'm guessing) or 20's lol. The gist so far is the he's the young king or prince of a very small country (that's italian-ish). He's the oft seen jaded, type A, workaholic character type. He's travels around the world, doing foreign dignitary crap. They do address the different expectations for girls very early. And I love that at one point she openly tells her brother " I know you're saying this for my own benefit, and I know you and mom aren't bad people. But what does that matter when I'm hurting?". It's also amusing that at first glance he's fascinated with the heroine and can't let her out of his sight, but she's just wondering why this creepy guy is following her. Ahh... good times. lmao

I'm hoping it gets more intense soon though, or at least he gets all alpha male possessive. In Manga I can't seem to get enough of all the: angst, soap opera drama, and domineering McRapey-ish hero's; that I loathe in 80's romance novels.

I've been leaning more toward the Korean Manhwas lately because of the dark and twisty plots and gorgeous stylized art. I highly rec "Bride of the Water God", if you haven't peeked at it yet it's divine = ).

new_user Yeah, only in manga/manhwa do we see so many driven teenagers, LOL. That smacks of Goong.

LOL@Mist. It would be nice to see some possessiveness, etc. That's intense. I have mixed feelings sometimes though. You know, she's walking away and he seizes her arm all abuser-like as he gives her a crumb to keep her coming back like "Maybe you're not so bad after all," LOL. I could stand the possessiveness with a little less of that, LOL. Maybe that's more true to a possessive guy. I actually saw that in a YA novel, and it annoyed me. Her anime/manga influences were really obvious, to the point her work seemed derivative.

It would also be nice to see some more bits of reality in there. I think this is the first manhwa I've read where the different expectations for men and women are addressed aside from Tramps Like Us.

Finally, someone who prefers manhwa. LOL. I lean more towards them too because of the art and the intensity. And I love Bride of the Water God! It's my favorite! I love it to pieces. I can just stare at the art. I wish they would translate faster! *mumblegrumble*
