I have changed after reading this book for the better. It taught me that compassion can go a long way and help people out more than I know. I learned how to be helpful to people who need it, and how to be more aware of my words and how they are affecting the people around me. Overall, this book teaches a great lesson about friendship and relationships.

49.If I could talk to the author of this book, I would tell him/her...
If I could talk to the author of this book, I would tell her that I think this is a very inspiring story. I would ask what her inspiration was to write about this and if it came from her experiences in her personal life. I would also ask if she had any other books that she had written that she would recommend for me to read next.

30.I think..
I think that a lot of lessons could be learned from Ally, including skills of self-confidence, perseverance, and determination to succeed. She never gave up, no matter what everyone else was telling her. In the end, she got what she deserved and worked for, and no one can take that away from her. She now has skills that she can carry with her for the rest of her life, that will make her more successful.

21.As I read, I felt...
As I read I felt like I wanted to help Ally. But as the book went on, I started to feel proud and happy for her because she made a lot of progress throughout the book and never let anything stop her. I was inspired by Ally and I hope that anyone who reads this book will take away the lessons that Ally and her friends taught. It is an inspiring book that I would recommend to anyone in school.

38.________________ made me think of...
Ally made me think of all of the other kids in school who could be going through the same things as her. Often, people don' realize how much other people could be struggling and what people might be dealing with. This has made me want to make sure that I am being as compassionate to everyone as possible because it can help people out more than we know.

88.Choose food that represents this book and explain why.
A food that represents this book is ice cream because ice cream is a very common "comfort food" for a lot of people. Ice cream gives people comfort, just like how Ally's friends gave her comfort and encouragement throughout the story. No matter what happened, her friends were always there, just like ice cream for some people, including me.

63.Do the characters remind you of friends, family members, or classmates? Explain
The two characters, who are kind to Ally in her class remind me of some of my classmates at school. Coming to a new school this year, I didn't know what to expect, but there were some classmates in particular who made my experience a good one, just like how Ally's friends helped make her days better. They have kindness in common.

69. Has the book helped you in any way? Explain.
This book has helped me to understand that some people have setbacks that cause them to have a more difficult time than others, and that kindness can go a long way. Especially in high-school, people can have a particularly hard time, and the support and compassion of friends can help people tremendously.

65.What would you and your favorite character talk about in a conversation? Begin the conversation.
I would ask Ally, what her advice would be for students who also learn a little slower than other students, or kids who don't exactly feel like they fit in. I think that since this is something she experienced firsthand, she would probably have some good advice that could help other kids and be passed on.

46.The most important thing I learned about ____________ is...
The most important thing I learned about friendship is that you need to be nice no matter what everyone else is doing, and not care about what makes people different. Ally made friends who didn't care about her learning a little slower, and ignored what everyone else said. In the end, this benefitted both Ally and her friends as they created great bonds.

66. Do you think the title fits the book? Why or why not?
I think the title fits the book perfectly because a “fish in a tree” represents a misfit/outcast or someone who feels like they don’t belong. This is exactly how I would describe how Ally is feeling, since she learns a bit slower than her classmates and has trouble making friends at school. I can’t think of a better title for this book.
