I hate myself.

That said, so far, this book is *far* more engaging than any of the twilight books. Edward seems like a flat, moralistic character in Bella's eyes-- I didn't think about the depth and breadth of seeing him react to the thoughts of everyone around him. I also find it much easier to accept his morality from his POV, rather than seeing him impose it on Bella. Meyer seems to have grown as a writer.

It would have been super cool if one of the cullens decided to bring a passion for treating people’s mental well being into their second life. Meyer can say ‘vampires don’t change’ all she wants, but you cannot convince me that Edward had all this sophisticated mental baggage and complex coping mechanisms in his 17 year old self. He developed it as a vamp, which means he could learn to heal it as a vamp.

Much much more interesting and better written than Twilight. Like the Jacob section of Breaking Dawn, Edward has a much stronger voice than Bella ever does (facepalm to that, but not totally surprising), and Meyer writes his feeling with better (at least better written) complexity and nuance. His moralizing is more tolerable when it is internal, and he both is and is not a teenager. Well done.
