not sure why I'm so fascinated by both disaster history and tales of wrong headed old science, but this book is touching both those sweet spots. if you like it I'd recommend the books of F Gonzalez-Crussi which I find amazing when I can find them at all. for disasters I'd recommend one I just finished, Unsettling May Have Occurred by the staff of damninteresting.com
