Thanks to my friend Lisa who made me realise the similarities
Nalini's books have had a huge influence on SJM's work!!
Nonetheless, Nalini's books are not well-known!!
And they're even BETTER than ACOTAR!!!!

The Guild Hunter series is Diverse
There is a POC MC
And the plot is soo much engaging!!!
I HIGHLY recommend it!!!

Especially the Wing Cleaning scene!!!
Elena and Raphael did it first!!

The line about the stars that keeps being touted and requoted was in the Disney film Treasure Planet. Plus SJM's whole mating bond thing bears a lot of resemblance to Kresley Cole's Immortals After Dark series. Her sources are not well disguised.

@J.A. She has been inspired by lots of things, it’s just frustrating that she doesn’t say who she has been inspired by. Also, the use of male and female and mate is mentioned in Nalini Singh’s books as well! Also, about stars and the beauty of them is in Nalini Singh’s as well! 😤

It's like, I get that all writers are inspired by other books/ films/ stories etc. That's fine. But you have to dig deep, take what you love from other writers and be able to put a new spin on it. If you're any good, most readers won't even realise where your ideas came from. That's what originality in writing really is. Wholesale poaching of entire lines and plot points is not ok though. It's baffling how SJM is so well known and bestselling when she regurgitates other writers ideas, and does it generally worse than the original. If she's decided she wants out of YA and NA and thoughtful fantasy, and wants to write fey smut, that's cool - she should just do that. But I want her to stop billing her books as fantasy when they're basically low grade smut with fantasy dressing. Grr.

Also kinda irrelevant, but I heard that SMJ’s lattest book also kept using ‘like calls to like’ from the Grishaverse. 🤔

@J.A. Completely agree!! She shouldn’t take direct lines and scenes and make it her own without acknowledging that she has been heavily inspired by other people’s work!! 😤
Yeah I’m baffled how so many love her books and see no wrong! Like they are so problematic on so many levels- yet people look past it all!!
Yes her books are not fantasy in the slightest- just smutty books with a thin layer of fantasy throw in!! 🤬

@Bhavya Nalini Singh’s first book from Guild Hunter series, Angel’s Blood, was published in 2009 acotar was published in 2015!
So Singh came first!!

I love that series by Kresley Cole!!!
And now I can def see the resemblance !!!
Especially the part where the man is crazier about the woman!!

@Mrimayi Yes!! Azriel is Jason!! It makes me so angry that people don’t know about Singh and her characters and nobody is any the wiser and will love if Azriel sings because nobody will know that that it’s not an original idea and think sjm came up with it!! 🤬

Not to mention the way she romanticises abusive relations SMH

@Amodini They really do need to know about this!! Btw the wings fetish only comes up that once’s but the sensitivity comes up a lot in Singh’s books but it done so well and is just where not a exploit about it all the time
