I finished the first of the three included novels (“[Conversations] In Sicily”) and it was strange and dreamlike and circular and impressionistic in a way that makes me feel unsettled, and I’m not sure it was worth reading outside of a college course to give it context. A few scenes made clear enough statements about various forms of social injustice, but I’m sure a lot of what’s going on went over my head.
