‘Even yesterday, when Araminta had spoken to the girl, she’d pretended ignorance. But she had known. Yes, she had known. Indignation & anger were followed by a great sense of superiority. This poor, stained creature before her could never compare w/ Araminta, no matter how beautiful she was. They might share a father but Miss Hazlett was a bastard, & a bastard could never rise in the world.’

‘She pressed herself harder against him, cupping his face as if that could intensify the kiss, wishing they were in a position whereby they could divest their garments & indulge in a mad coupling that would satisfy Araminta on every level. She gasped as she dropped her hands & suddenly found they were upon his rump. Such a hard, manly rump that she could not wait to feel in all its nakedness.’ ...LOL. Rump. 😂

‘Jane’s anxious tone broke into Araminta’s growing fear. No, it couldn’t have happened to her. Those hideous few seconds when Araminta had thrown herself upon Sir Aubrey, thinking he was about to ask her to marry him, could not have resulted in her worst nightmare.’ ....Bwahaha! Araminta’s preggers after briefly impaling herself on her sister’s husband’s mighty cock? Classy. 😂

‘Strange that meeting Lord Ludbridge seemed to have entirely dispelled her despair over losing Sir Aubrey to Hetty. It only confirmed that the irresistible man w/ whom she was dancing must assuredly be her destiny.’ ....Lolz. Araminta finds a new destiny in every book. Sometimes more than once.

I know some of this book overlaps Hetty’s story in the overall timeline, but these Araminta scenes don’t have any real suspense—we already know how Hetty’s tale is resolved, so I feel like we’re just marking time until Lissa’s plot takes center stage.

—“The good woman I lodge with is a seamstress. She’ll know what to do.”
—Lissa slanted a dubious look at him as they began walking, & he laughed. “You are the suspicious type, aren’t you? But of course, to be alone with any gentleman must be highly distressing. Don’t worry, no one will recognize you with such a dirty face.”
....Heh. Carriage accident —> true love.

‘She pretended to deliberate even more. She was not calculating by nature, but since becoming a governess in this middle-class household, w/ its pretensions & aspirations, she’d learned how much more people wanted something when it seemed they could not get it.’
