There is intense irony. I think the Germans were only nice so that they could give the Jews optimism and hope and a false sense of security just to take it all away at the end like a mind game. The Hungarian people were meaner than the Germans. Plus, the people who actually experienced the war and lived through it ignored the Holocaust and called it a hoax in the 50s-60s, meanwhile now people are fascinated with it.
