In this act, we find out a lot about Nick and Honey's marriage and how it isn't really as perfect as it seems. We feel that there is no real relationship between them as even Martha and George's instability is healthier because at least they get their problems out in the open. The former, however, seem to ignore their conflicts and Honey even goes so far as hiding her pregnancies from Nick.

We explore the characters' flaws more deeply here.Martha is completely insensitive to George and attacks his dignity whereas George, wounded by his wife's insults, retaliates by lashing out at the guests.Nick's materialism and desires are revealed. Honey, in turn, is afraid of having children and so the whole idea of marriage and family is torn apart. Even George doesn't mind inventing the death of his son to hurt M.

This play is very strange and unpredictable so far. There are constantly volatile, moody exchanges between Martha and George, who seem to enjoy poking at each other and bringing out each other's insecurities. This attitude extends to their guests and the two don't bother adopting any manners; George doesn't consider it rude to provoke Nick. Nick and Honey, in contrast, seem to be a rather bland, superficial couple.
