Ais added a status update
Goodreads keeps randomly giving me the last name of Ais, so I'll comment on things and suddenly I'm Ais Ais instead of just Ais. Please stop it, GR. I'm already weird enough on my own. I don't need your help. But A+ on effort, there.

SueC Just read it like I do: Ace Ais. Combine that with Jazz Hands and you'll be smiling every time ;D

Julio Genao it happens to me whenever i make any changes to my author profile. the name field resets to the default and it changes to Julio-Alexi Genao all by itself.

like i'm some Big Name Author with capital letters and hyphens and shit?

buggy goodreads is buggy.

Violet In airlines, they do that. some nationalities like the indonesians just has one name in their passports but the system is programmed To take the first name and last otherwise it wont accept it. What we do is put first name and last name the same and the pax checks in they just tell the counter about it.

Ais lol the combination of your guys' comments is pretty amusing.

I laughed at Sue's comment and of course had to say Ace Ais with jazz hands because it entertains me-- and the Julio, I was amused by your comment too but was thinking more seriously because you got me thinking about whether I had done anything to accidentally trigger it-- and then Violet I was into straight serious mode thinking about that. That's annoying. Also, I didn't know Indonesians only had one name on their passports. That's really interesting.

I feel bad for anyone who has a two-letter name, though. With Ais, I find there are times it won't let me do even a three-letter name on different sites online, and I have to add all these extraneous bits to make it accept it. (which is why it's different for me in places, like ais.icos or aisness or whatnot) It would be really annoying if the internet (or any system like airlines) refused to accept your name because it didn't fall within the parameters.

I have the opposite problem. In Mexico, people usually have 1 (or more) first names, then the paternal last name, then the maternal last name. So, at least there's three names total.

Me? I've five: three first names and then the regular paternal/maternal combo. And since most IDs start by stating the last names, my last first name is always cut - in school, in my tourist visa to travel to the US, in my passport... It's incredibly annoying. Some websites don't allow for space for all my names and that's a hassle, too. I have to use initials and then everyone's all confused.

Julio Genao *sympathetic look*

lo siento.

Ais Given the complexity of human naming conventions, it's pretty stupid that there are these restrictive systems in place. I get why they do it, so things can be uniform, but you'd think they'd make it uniform in a way that allowed for the extremities to have options too, even if they're just less utilized.

Haha, you remind me of my mom. She nearly slapped a clerk at the registrar's office when she (the clerk) told my mom she couldn't give my brother so many names because a) the space in the sheet was too small and b) it would create problems for him when he got married and had children.

Mom told her: "If you can guarantee my son's going to get married and have kids, then I'll follow your suggestion. Otherwise, go get a typing machine with smaller font."

Aw, thanks!

Ais 1) I love your mom

2) wtf?? That is not the clerk's prerogative. Maybe they should have just typed in a smaller font or written it in there. jeez.

3) Sorry! Somehow I didn't see your message before

Haha, thanks. Funny thing is, if I mention to her that I shared the anecdote and you guys love her for it, she'll just tell me I shouldn't speak ill of her online :p

Yeah, the clerk was an ass... But that's sadly not very uncommon here in Mexico, though it has gotten better over the years.

And don't worry! :)

message 13: by Ais (new)

Ais lol so if you were to have said, "My mom didn't complain and changed her son's name to make it more convenient for the clerk" would that not be speaking ill of her? ;)

Any mention of her online that does not praise her baking skills counts as ill-speak. For some reason she thinks our accounts of her bad-assery make people afraid of her, when in fact most of our friends are kind of in awe of her.

message 15: by Ais (new)

Ais lol that's cute. It just makes me like your mom more :) Just tell her you tell everyone how great her baking skills are any time you talk about anything else and she'll get the feeling without being distracted by the details.
