There's buildup towards a catastrophic event engineered by the elderly creep. She's alreadyvp kidnapped the little girl but let her loose at the mall. You'd think a retired lady would have better things to do than stalk some family.

It's one of those with characters having alternate chapters. It starts by emma's childhood friendship with Polly. No Emma is an influencer. Unbeknownst to her, she has a stalker. Odds are, it's this Polly chick, who must have been left behind as emma became more and more successful. Emma is a big instagram faker/prolific contributor. She's got a big following. Her husband Dan is a novelist, long overdue for a book.
