Very easy going writing style. Author keen to impart knowledge rather than show how much he knows. First impressions all positive.

A sad story of commercialisation of bumble bee breeding being shipped all over the world so native species are exposed to diseases from non native species. This seems to have destroyed the populations of many north american species. That it could do in other places around the globe seems of no significance to governmental bodies until the problem is to advanced to combat. A depressingly common tale.

A surprising number of predators make a meal of a bumblebee and a great many parasites live on them. I learnt about a few of them and the rather meticulous work that is ongoing to discover more about this aspect of the bumblebees existence.

Some of the devastation that has been caused by the introduction of non native species to Australia and New Zealand are described to the reader. Pretty depressing it is too.
