If we engage in marriage thoughtfully, purposefully, and with godly intentions, our wedlock will shape us in a way that few other life experiences can. It will usher us into God’s own presence.

Getting married is agreeing to grow together, into each other, to virtually commingle our souls so that we share a unique and rare bond. When we stop doing that, we have committed fraud against our partner; we made a commitment that we’re not living up to.

It takes at least the span of a decade for the sense of intimacy to really display itself in the marriage relationship. When couples break up after 6 or 7 years they haven’t even begun to experience what being married is really like.

This weeks chapter -Holy Honor- marriage teaches us to respect others. Take the plank out of your own eye before you try to remove the speck from your neighbors (or spouses) eye. Were not married in a garden of eden; were married in the midst of many responsibilities that compete for our energy. This new understanding has ushered a stronger empathy for each other in our weaknesses and peculiarities

If you truly want to love God, look right now at the ring on your left hand, commit yourself to exploring anew what that ring represents, and love passionately, crazily, and enduringly the fleshly person who put it there.
