From Sophia Tolstoy's diaries: "I copied Lyovochka's diaries up to the part where he wrote: 'There is no such thing as love, only the physical need for intercourse and the practical need for a life's companion.' I only wish I had read that remark twenty years ago, then I would not have married him." (p. 128)

Tolstoy was such an ass. From a letter to a girlfriend: "However, to tell the truth - my hand on my heart - I'm already thinking of you much less now... I know many women more intelligent than you, but I've never met one more honest... You see, I so ardently wish to love you that I am teaching you how to make me love you." (p.39-40)
