It's funny, the order of the book is haiku, then koans, then sayings, and I've enjoyed each section just a little less. Ironically, Zen masters would probably say that that is as it should be- since Zen is about experiencing as opposed to pontificating. Haiku capture an instant of experience. Koans challenge you to think. Sayings are the most didactic of the three forms. Anyway, I feel like I've learned a little.
