Clever, snarky pieces about famous people that occasionally require the insider knowledge found in a Wikipedia article. The illustrations are star for me, though I have to say Gorey should have looked at an actual braid before trying to draw one.

Ascerbic, alliterative (not to say assonant), and amusing short, satiric, and silly biographies. (It helps to know something of their actual lives.)
