I chose this book mainly because of the cover, which is of a couple in the winter snow. I thought this would be a relevant book to read during the winter season. Also, The Ex Games is primarily about snowboarding which is one of my favorite hobbies.

This book is a romance novel. This is obvious because of the two main characters, who are going through relationship struggles. In the last chapter, Hayden said "It's a date" (276).

A minor character who makes an impact on the story is Nick, Hayden's ex boyfriend. Throughout the entire book he challenges her to become a better snowboarder and a better person. "'Hayden, the only reason any of this occurred was because of you. I give all credit just to you" (Echols 255).

The author uses an immense amount of imagery, specifically describing the ski slopes. "I couldn't wait to feel the freezing gusts of minty wind disseminate among my rosy cheeks" (244).
