He’d felt her come on his hand. He knew she hadn’t faked it. But he knew with just as much certainty that she hadn’t been messing with him when she’d said it either. She meant it. It was fine. He’d done a fine job.

She started walking and he stared after her, knowing the hike had nothing to do with the changes, but not sure how to feel about it. About her. Aw, fuck. He knew how he felt about her, what he didn’t know was what to do about it. How to stop it, since the feelings came with an expiration date that was going to be really damn painful. Jarek knew pain.
