Read this during my early teen years when my world revolved around D&D & the fantasy genre. Needed some light reading. Seeing how the puns hold up. Thrilled to see they kept the Whelan cover.

Struggled to get through the chaotic pun/scenes as we entered the last hundred or so pages...and the whole "pretty girls are dumb, ugly girls are smart" paragraphs almost made me stop reading. But, amazingly, P.A. pulled it all together, and redeemed the immature hero in the last chapter. Once wondering why I was reading this, I am now wondering how Xanth & it's populace of characters grow in the series.

Interesting, but seeing adolescent-male sexist 70's entertainment in the pages...something I didn't notice back when I was the target audience. Not grabbing me like a good read should, but...this is a reread...
