I have for a REALLY long time wanted to read Trakl but his books are very difficult to get ahold of, bought a used copy of this from a friend and it is quite impressive - lots of rural romanticism with picturesque nature description especially of sunsets, forests and peasant life but with a dark disturbing undertone to everything going on

there is a ton of eerie imagery and themes concerning death and the afterlife here, as well as more oppressive imagery of smog-choked dark modern cities that pop up as contrast to the beautiful descriptions of rural landscapes, NONE of it feels the slightest tacky or trying-too-hard
