It just keeps getting more...just more. Like "misogyny Factorio" was a start, but now we have fiat currency, personal identity as a concept, and oh yeah, the Ludovico treatment. None of these seem particularly explored and at this point, it's hard to tell what is supposed to be a joke.

This is a really weird book. Almost unsettling.

This book keeps having these weird side things that feel like they are trying to satirize something, but it's never clear to what end. Like the fiat currency thing continues to come up, and I just got past a section that kinfa felt like it was mocking the labor theory of value, but again, no real indicator of why. It's strange.

Also like...don't explain your pun.

Who had "misogyny Factorio" on the 60s SciFi bingo card? Not me, but here we are, lol.

So probably gonna read more later today, but the sorta shots at other SF writers in this book are hilarious.

Heinlein (Fineline) being god of engineers is hilarious, with how many nerdbertarian STEMlords I've known who love him.

Harlan Ellison (Elcin) being the tiny angry god of thunder who is unpredictable and lets people down when they think he will succeed is so perfect.

The story is so-so, but the gossip!

Lindsey Hollands I’ve pretty much assumed everything to be a joke and thus am loving it

Chris Pinner I mean, you know I love some rightwing af content, so it's not gonna stop me or anything. And there is plenty of funny stuff in here that isn't that (Gene Roddenberry having his gretest rival be Neilsen ratings, ha). Niven has always been borderline questionable and like literally worked for Reagan at one point (he's a Sixties libertarian dude). The fiat currency stuff really is starting to feel like a "well this is why we NEED the gold standard!" argument, like it's basically the same plot thing as Atlas Shrugged. And like, repeated domestic abuse is not super funny, even (maybe especially) when played as a joke. It's starting to feel like a "what are you women complaining about? Look how much worse it could be!" story, which like...ehhhh. The narrator even does the "well, I coulda raped her, but that is less fun for me" at one point, yikes.

Like I think most of it is intended as a joke, but at the same time, I don't know what the underlying point is always, and sometimes it feels like the target isn't great. I will say that I think part of this is informed by recent personal shit with my dad, if I'm being totally honest. But that is a whole Other Thing, ha.

Definitely going to finish it out, and am enjoying it for the most part (like the core story of technology wizard encountering primitive people is fun as heck), but there's all these weird things around the edges.
