Hilly and Miss Celia yell at each other at the Benefit, with Hilly calling Miss Celia a liar and Miss Celia throwing up. Minny then reveals to Miss Celia that she baked a pie with her poop in it and fed it to Hilly, which caused Hilly to tell the whole town that Minny was a theif.

Minny gets mad at Miss Celia for being a drunk, gets fired, comes back the next Monday to find Miss Celia in the bathroom having a miscarriage. Yule May is now in jail for stealing from Miss Hilly to help pay for her sons' education. Miss Skeeter is getting more serious with Stuart, and because of Minny getting all fired up, more and more maids have agreed to help Skeeter with the book.

A black man was shot by someone in the KKK and all of the black people are very distraught over it. Yule May, Miss Hilly's maid, agreed to talk to Aibileen about being involved in the book.

Miss Hilly knows about the book because Miss Skeeter left her satchel with everything in it at the League house. Aibileen is worried but she does't want to stop the questions. Skeeter is also seeing Stuart Whitworth more often after she gave him a second chance.

Miss Skeeter continues to work with Aibileen on their book. Minny is very skeptical of the whole idea. Mister Johnny has known about Minny for awhile. Skeeter will have to get many more maids to help her with her book if she wants to get it published.
