The structure is quite clever. The novel so far amounts to a tour de force. In the hands of a lesser writer, I might be tempted to call it gimmicky, but John Boyne makes it all work out, of course. I've read that the ending may prove disappointing, but I'm taking it one step at a time and I have no complaints at the moment.
